Red Sox & A’s

This morning I woke up and turned on the television in time to see the last few innings of the Major League opening game being played between the Oakland A’s and the Boston Red Sox. I was really enjoying the fact that the A’s were leading. A’s closer Houston Street came on to finish the game. But against a rookie fill-in for J.D. Drew hit a homer to tie the game then the Red Sox won the game in 10, with Manny being Manny!

Houston A-STEROIDS

That my be the new name for the Major League Baseball team that plays at Minute Maid Park. It was bad enough that all the talk was centered around Home Town boys Andy Pettitte and Roget Clemens. But today the news came out that Miguel Tejada has become the target of the Congressional hearings as to whether he lied to a federal investigator. Now we in Houston are wondering who will play shortstop on Opening Day.

ARod to Stay?

I think it is absolutely hilarious that Alex Rodriguez and the New York Yankees are in negotiations for a new contract for next year. All the posturing and blustering by both team representatives and the player’s agent, Scott Boras, made it soound like there was an unscalable wall between the two sides. I have no idea if a contract will be worked out or if this is another ploy, but it is funny!

Cubs?

Do you really think the Cubs are going to hang on and win the division over the Brewers? I cannot imagine that really happening! But then they went out and man handled the Cardinals, reducing their hopes to nothing. Maybe my Astros will be able to do some damage in the days ahead, and make a difference in the outcome.

Baseball Playoffs Loom

Which teams and players do you expect to do well in the upcoming baseball playoffs. I am an avid Astros fan, but I know none of them will show up in the playoffs. Unfortunately the ‘Stros will be nowhere in sight then. I expect the Red Sox to continue their excellence of 2007. They will be the American League Representative in the World Series, with lots of heroes on the way there. I am looking for the Mets to complete the deal this year, after having lost to the Cardinals in the LCS. I believe Jose Reyes will get the national spotlight and be the WS MVP!

Ryan Braun In the Sausage Races?

I was prepared to like the rookie third baseman for the Milwaukee Brewers. He has gotten off to noe of the hottest starts in MLB history. But last night when he hit a homer off a fellow rookie from Houston, he hot dogged way too much, strutting away from home plate and not beginning his trot for several beats. He was barked at by Astros’ first baseman Lance Berkman, and then by his manager, Ned Yost.

I hope he took it to heart and does not need to be entered into the Sausage Races held every night at Miller Park!

High Drama in the All Star Game

The Major League All Star Game was held in San Francisco last night. There was a bit of high drama in the ninth inning. The Americal League entered the bottom of the inning with a three run lead, 5-2. The National League scored two runs on a homer by Alfonso Soriano. Then, with two outs, three walks in a row loaded the bases. But Aaron Rowand flew out to right field, and the drama ended.

No Barry In The Derby

I am sure fans in San Francisco will be disappointed at the fact that Barry Bonds is not going to participate in the Home Run Derby held tonight in conjunction with the All Star Game. I don’t like Barry in any regard, but if I was him I would not participate either. He has nothing to prove to anyone and the extra wear on his body will not do anyone on the Giants any good.
