Pardee?

The University of Houston is looking for a football coach, because of the defection of Art Briles to Baylor a couple of weeks ago. It is important to get a quality coach in place in  relatively short period of time to help solidify the recruiting process. They are looking at a few highly regarded offensive co-ordinators who have no head coaching experience. Any of them might be exactly the right guy for the moment. But the Coogs are seen by most of these guys as a steppng stone to better jobs, the way Briles did. So maybe Jack Pardee is the right choice, despite the fact that he is now 71 years old. He is an extremely successful coach and could make this a tremendous place to work if he could come and give 5 to 10 years of steadiness to the position.

Tech Did Not Come Back!

The Red Raiders got in an early hole against the Missouri Tigers this afternoon. Even their high power offense could not save tehm today as the Tigers did not have any weaknesses. The final score was 41-10, Tech did not score in the second half. That will no doubt drop them from the top 25 in the polls.

Texas Tech and Missouri

I am a casual fan of the Texas Tech Red Raiders football team, mostly because they are so volatile on offense. They have a great freshman wide receiver named Michael Crabtree. They began today against Missouri by having a tipped pass intercepted for a touchdown and are about to give up a second score. That means they will have to overcome a deficit if they want to win. But they are very capable of scoring enough to win. The question is can they stop the Tigers.

Coogs vs Owls

This afternoon I took two of my grandsons to watch the football game between crosstown rivals Rice University and the University of Houston, for the coveted Bayou Bucket. After six plays the Houston Cougars were up 14-0. Then they had a couple of misplays and the Owls tied it up. But by the end of the FIRST quarter, the score was 28-14 Coogs.

But the turnover bug bit them and they were trailing 34-26 at the half and went down as much as 41-28 in the third quarter. But the explosiveness of UH was too much for Rice and the final score was 56-48 in favor of the Cougars.

To say the least, a wild game!

High on the Hogs?

There has been lots of talk and many questions floating around about whether the Arkansas Razorbacks will be able to overcome the turmoil surrounding the football program and achieve greatness. Darren McFadden finished second in the Heisman voting last year, and he is back. I hope his season is not ruined by the problems of the coach, Houston Nutt!
